LIVING MÄRTYR
We purposely made Its initials be LM to allude to my last name Lara L and the co-founder’s last name Mohamed M. We made Living Märtyr circle back to the reformative ideals we carry, our last names Lara and Mohamed is alluded by the name Living Märtyr, in both a metaphoric and literary way.
The name is built on an oxymoron.
“Martyr”, which implies death; complete devotion, and life lost of all personal meaning due to a greater desire for justice. Adding “Living” completes the oxymoron. A living dead man. within two words we wanted to encapsulated a person who breathes revolution, as is often seen in our countries of origin, no matter the pain or cost. In just two words, it captures ones burning desires.
To us it means being ready to endure torture, suffering, and death to reach the final goal we yearn for, which is justice and reform into the world.
“Its almost like carrying a bullet with your name on it.”
The two dots above the “Ä” don’t change the word, but they shift the meaning. They reference the Taa Marbuta (ة); the Arabic feminine suffix bringing a subtle reference to martyr women through time. By placing the two dots over the "A" in MÄRTYR, the brand name becomes a quiet rebellion and a hint of feminism in martyrdom.
We think it’s absolutely beautiful seeing what people will without a second thought DIE for, so we let everyone interpret what the meaning of the brand really is to them. Passion its the purest form of human art.
